Everyone knows the nursery rhyme, right? To market, to market, to buy a fat pig./Home again, home again, jiggety jig! Now that we’ve all taken a quick trip down memory lane and hummed the tune on everyone’s lips, let’s get serious about Maturin Charlevoix…

Maturin Charlevoix

To market, to market to buy a lamb chop./Home again, home again, jiggety-jog.

Oops, sorry! Got carried away again… As we were saying, you’ll certainly find leg of lamb at this market, and truffle oil, but also gorria peppers, emu meat, maple products, saffron, cheese, charcuterie, different varieties of granola. In other words, all the great tastes of Charlevoix. The terroir that has made this area famous over a number of decades, during which food producers have refined their art: the art of delighting us!

All well and good. But in which village, and at which door can this specialty grocery store, with with its well-stocked shelves be found,  you might ask? Why, at home, of course, with one click:

Charlevoix’s online grocer

The extensive “Maturin, comme à la ferme” website, founded by Jonathan L. Bélanger, includes a full page created by the Charlevoix and Charlevoix-Est RCMs to showcase producers in the Charlevoix territory, thanks to the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation’s contribution under the Territoires : priorités bioalimentaires [Territories: Biofood Priorities] program. As a result, producers in the area benefit from this new “shop window” when promoting their products to foodies across Quebec. The easy-to-navigate Maturin Charlevoix website allows people to place orders from different producers in one shopping cart, to be delivered fresh to your door, wherever you live!

" Quebec’s exceptional terroirs [natural environments] are abundant and Charlevoix’s terroir is unmistakable. Here, we find family-based food producers and processors who have relied on their uniqueness to provide us with fresh, flavourful, well-presented food. These businesses, by joining forces, have made their product offering increasingly competitive with the offering provided by major grocers. We’re really proud to be able to work together to promote the purchase of products made in Charlevoix, beyond their usual distribution area. "

– Jonathan L Bélanger, President and Founder of “Maturin, comme à la ferme

The taste of Charlevoix, at home!

You’d almost think you were in Charlevoix! …The river below, the mountain streams that flow into it, the setting sun. All of this including the fields, of course. The perfect Charlevoix feast is a feast for the eyes, in these photos of a country table, part of the locally-based Maturin website’s launch campaign. Dinner plates hand-made by the local potter, wooden planks made here, topped with food from Maturin Charlevoix, beside a bouquet of wildflowers. It’s a time to share, to laugh, to be together, gathered around a big table full of Charlevoix’s delights! That’s what our team said when producing this inspiring, warm, and authentic video.

Le goût de Charlevoix

Alex Perron: He knows how good Charlevoix tastes

Did you know that Alex Perron comes from Port-au-Persil, in Charlevoix? In fact, he has a cottage in the little hamlet, where he spends almost all of his vacations. And it’s non-negotiable: when staying at the cottage, he takes the time to stock up on great local products! Cheeses (including Migneron) which Alex is particularly fond of, for example. So it’s entirely natural for the popular host to want to share the good news, that the taste of Charlevoix is now available to everyone, with as many people as possible! Which is why he’s become a proud ambassador of Maturin Charlevoix. Knowing how perceptive and playful he is, we can hardly wait to see how he will embrace this cause!

At the table with Maturin Charlevoix

Sur notre tablée champêtre, on vous sert:

-Austravoix emu meat charcuterie plate. Salami, rillettes, and terrine with onion confit. Dare to discover this delectable and versatile meat, available in various forms, at maturincharlevoix.ca!

-Colourful cherry tomatoes and white truffle basil oil, from Truffe Charlevoix. Also on the table: Truffe Charlevoix’s caramel corn. The distinctive and refined flavour of truffles, in Quebec? Not only is it possible, it’s the booming venture undertaken by this company, based in Sainte-Agnès.

-Oat rice salad, from Les belles récoltes de Charlevoix. Oat rice makes it possible to use a local grain as a base for a sort of “pasta salad” or for a side dish served hot, like rice. It’s one of many organic grain products sold by this local company, especially known for its granola mixes.

-Cheese plate from the Laiterie Charlevoix accompanied by cognac-flavoured maple jelly from Saveur Nature. The fleurmier, hercule, and 1608 cheeses are proud representatives of Charlevoix’s terroir you must add to your party menus and everyday meals. And you must discover the various marinades, forest-based products, and maple products from Saveur Nature, a family business whose passion is discovering the flavourful potential of boreal products.

-Cubes of Charlevoix, IGP-certified lamb from Véritable Agneau de Charlevoix. The centrepiece of the table, the pride of one of the first local producers to have trusted the Maturin  Charlevoix platform with selling its tender, one-of-a-kind lamb, sold in a variety of butcher cuts or processed forms, frozen and delivered to your door, anywhere in Quebec.

-Le Ciel de Charlevoix cheese platter and the famous Migneron cheese, from the Famille Migneron Charlevoix. Cheese from the Migneron family business already has a solid reputation across the province. Delicious on its own, or with fruit (pears, grapes) or crackers, but especially with good local bread.

-Crunchy, seasonal fresh vegetables with gorria pepper sea-salt from Jardin des Chefs. Facing the St. Lawrence River, the Jardin des chefs is recognizable for its garlands of Gorria peppers drying in the sun, hanging from the veranda of a heritage home on the rang des Éboulements centre country road. Tasty when added to a dish, or eaten on its own atop cucumber or summer radishes.

-A board of Charlot and Chorizo, two kinds of sausage from Charcuterie Charlevoisienne. Variety, flavour, freshness, the expertise of an experienced butcher: wherever you are, discover what makes Charcuterie Charlevoisienne an essential part of everyone’s table.

« I tell producers to take a chance, not to be afraid. As the seller of a perishable product, Maturin helped me supply my clients outside the Charlevoix area, and helped me stabilize my sales outside of the tourist season. If Maturin helped me, they can also help you. They’re always full of ideas for helping us showcase our products. »

-Annie Bérubé, Le véritable agneau de Charlevoix

We hope that, like a good earworm, the nursery rhyme sticks in your head as a reminder to shop for fine local foods from this area at maturincharlevoix.ca!
