Last fall, with an official invitation from Travel Direct Group in hand, our team had an exclusive opportunity to tour the Club Med Charlevoix Québec facilities a few days before its brand-new doors were officially opened.

It’s there, the highest point in Charlevoix, on the mountain-side. Along the portion of Route 138 they call the route des caps, or “in the mountains” as reception staff told us and this, indeed, is the gamble taken by this one-of-a-kind Club Med: a spectacular location where aspects of traditional Quebec culture surf (as in “surf des neiges” [snowboard]) side-by-side with this European-style alpine resort. Here, you’ll find tartan-inspired style is king, wooden canoe-frame art hanging from the ceiling, and chairlift chairs line the hallways so guests can linger in front of an impressive wall of picture windows overlooking Charlevoix, the river, and the Isle-aux-Coudres… Snowflake motifs, woodland animal decals on the wall, a giant quilt made by local artisans (lien vers les ateliers): the interior design is very “Canada”; our cousins from France will be thrilled! But nothing’s very rustic about this place, everything’s new (especially during our before-the-official-opening visit), everything’s got a designer feel to it, everything’s shiny, big and modern.

Because it’s Club Med, there’s much more to do here than sleep: the all-inclusive format of this first European-style alpine mountain village in North America mainly caters to skiers of the Massif de Charlevoix, a ski hill with a view. Its vertical drop is the largest east of the Rockies, and it is accessible from the village itself, with a “ski-in/ski-out” option.

And, absolutely, there’s skiing. But you can also relax in the outdoor Nordic baths, discover Quebec City, or the Charlevoix region, its towns and national parks, hurtle down a 7.5 km luge track, go for a dogsled ride, put on some snowshoes, or skates, and even learn the circus arts; these are just a few of the activities on offer. The kids are also taken care of, with childcare and age-appropriate activities available.

In summer, there’s mountain-biking and hiking in forested and mountainous areas overlooking the sweeping panorama of the St. Lawrence River.

After a full day of outdoor action and fun, the dining rooms open their large red, modern barn doors and the counters fill with food, offering guests lavish, gargantuan buffets, with plenty of room for cheeses, charcuterie, craft beer, and local maple syrup products. And, when you’ve had enough to eat, you can move to the rhythm of first-rate shows performed by entertainers selected by Club Med to get the crowd up and jumping. Of course, if athletic activities have left your arms and legs feeling heavy, you can head back up to your room, but for those who have a little more energy, the night’s just beginning on the dance floor. Truly, this international hotel and entertainment chain, known for its "Gentil Organizers" and village life, has something for everyone!

our team had an exclusive opportunity to experience the Club Med Charlevoix Québec facilities, a few days before its brand-new doors were officially opened. Share this moment of euphoria with the big Travel Direct Group family, together again in such beautiful facilities, two days prior to its grand opening to the public.
