Coming out
Go Charlevoix comes out of the closet and proudly announces its marriage to Fierté Charlevoix, as media partner. Love at first sight was inevitable: we share the same values! We promise to be a partner who cares about the well-being of others, to offer a true “safe space,” a safe place where everything is about love and openness. From the beginning, deep down, we’ve seen life in rainbow colours, simple and without judgment, and in May, we’ll show you all of those colours… The flag is flying; Fierté Charlevoix has landed, and has taken control of the web magazine!
The ally’s mantra
First and foremost, as an ally, we recognize that not everyone of us has lived through the experiences, good and bad, that you have. We live with privilege and advantages that we are not always able to quantify. That’s why we’re here, hands outstretched, ears ready to hear what you have to say; your stories, your experiences, your narratives; the needs or fears you tell us about are entirely legitimate. Furthermore, they are an opportunity to learn, to improve, and to make fewer mistakes; to understand that life puts obstacles in your path that are unknown to us. We will welcome each of you with the same unconditional love! One human being to another… And, because life is not always dark, and because rainbows appear after rainfall, we will celebrate the intrinsic value of human life, love, fundamental human rights, and social freedoms right alongside you. Bring on the Drag Queens, hear LGBTQ+ artists sing out loud, wear your best duds, whatever they are; break out your best dance moves, and kiss whoever you want to kiss! We’ll party together until the dawn! The dawn of a new day, when we won’t have to march for rights. The dawn of a new day, when the need for awareness disappears. The dawn of a new day, when pride and love reign!
Fierté Charlevoix [Charlevoix Pride]
Ths year, for the first time, Charlevoix has created an LGBTQ+ engagement and awareness event, organized by a committee consisting of representatives from local organisations and/or individuals from the LGBTQ community. It’s time to give pride its place, in the region. Its time to make Charlevoix an open, safe, and welcoming space for LGBTQ+ individuals; in short, a place that reflects the values of its citizens. If, for some, there’s still some way to go towards full acceptance of each and every person, whatever their gender identity or orientation, we’ll break down prejudices “à grand coups d’amour,” [with great gusts of love] as Gerry Boulet would sing!
We’ll provide you with the program of events in our promotions section, and hope to see allies and LGBTQ+ individuals meet and mingle in large numbers!
We’ll also give you a poetic and touching overview of the journey made by Gabrielle Boulianne-Tremblay, trans woman, author, actor, and model originally from Saint-Siméon, in Charlevoix.
We’ll also give you the chance to discover the Charlevoix favourites of two of our other proud ambassadors, Alex Perron, TV host and comedian, and Alexandre Bergeron, actor and jeweller.
And we’ll introduce you to openly welcoming local businesses that embody the values of the rainbow flag: Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, Chez Truchon, RE\MAX 1st Choice…
