The majestic and imposing Côte-Nord, Baie-Sainte-Catherine and Tadoussac, neighbours who share a ferry, separated by the Fjord. In mid-June, from the eastern shores of Charlevoix, you can hear the echoes of four days of festivities. And this year, from June 13 to 16, 2024, Festival de la chanson de Tadoussac celebrates its 40th anniversary!

A festival in a larger-than-life setting

A pioneer in its field, the largest of small festivals, the FCT has been showcasing French artists from Quebec, Canada and abroad for a long time now, through a professional and high-quality artistic offering. A festival in a larger-than-life setting, where breathtaking spots in nature are among the highlights of the program: the beach, the dunes, Pointe de l’Islet, kayaking on the Fjord or the Halte at the top of the village.

A multitude of small, intimate venues in the heart of the village serve as the perfect backdrop for parties where locals, travellers and artists of all generations mingle and vibrate with the same frequency. Feel the thrill of the echo of the music and the unparalleled acoustics of the church, the conviviality of a show enjoyed with a pint at the microbrewery pub and the inn that is making its comeback this year, as an equally unifying place. The intimacy and closeness between the artist and the audience have become the signature of this festival. Discovering new emerging talents is also embedded in the event’s DNA.

The FCT is known for being a talent incubator, one of the first springboards for Francophone artists. It is through initiatives such as Les chemins d’écriture that the festival fulfills this mandate. This initiative, which offers an artist residency as well as a stage on which to perform, will be celebrating its 21st edition. But the FCT offers a broader multidisciplinary program than its official four days: think Les soirées d’été, as well as Petit rappel, the 2024 edition of which will be held from October 11th to 13th. In addition, collaborating with partners such as Le Festif! ensures that youth programming is offered throughout the school year.

For its 40th anniversary, the organization is proud to present a new all-female team, one that is dynamic, ready to take on any challenge and perpetuate the tradition of this iconic festival. A human team close to its citizens that seeks to involve the community. To highlight this special year, which is synonymous with transition and festivities, there is a desire to return to the program’s roots, to acknowledge the past, while adding a touch of modern colour, propelled by this wind of change. The 2024 edition promises new features and lots of fun.

Enhanced programming

Musical performances in key locations across the village as well as street entertainment will be more present. Sunday, the last day of the festivities, will present an enhanced format with a closing show bringing together the artists of the program and local artists, in a great musical improvisation!

(Re) building bridges

Following the workshop Les chemins d’écriture, a collective show will be held on the main stage located at the Church. To bring together as many people as possible, to participate in the influence of emerging artists and to remind us of the important place they occupy in this festival. Building bridges is also the idea behind the great comeback of Auberge de Jeunesse.

A festival aware of the beauty and fragility of the site on which it is located. Intimate encounters, a revisited musical experience. Listen closely, keep your eyes peeled and, who knows, you might even spot a whale.
