Lilac time
Time for a festival; where the wind becomes song... And it’s that same wind that comes in off the wide St. Lawrence into Cap-à-l’Aigle (in this region, they call it the Village of Lilacs), to fill the sails of the Festival Pour un Instant [For One Moment] festival that takes place in June of every year, a new event dedicated to the flowering of an astonishing array of French song, in time for the season that fills gardens with fragrance.

For musical moments, times of togetherness… The Festival Pour un Instant takes over the Jardins du Cap-à-l’Aigle with musical programming that, in early June, includes a dozen or so artists, from big headliners to up-and-coming artists, brought together by an artistic director focussed on chansons à texte [protest songs or ballads] and French folk songs. France D’amour, Daniel Boucher, Geneviève Jodoin, Prairie Comeau, Andréanne A. Malette, Marily Dorion, Les Bouches Bées, Ancolie… You can take the time to savour every selection on the program because concerts don’t overlap one another, making it possible to enjoy the whole festival. It’s an experience enhanced by the atmosphere of garden stages, and the intimate atmosphere of the St. Peter on-the-Rock Anglican church.

In this place where the intoxicating aroma of lilacs intermingles with the salt air from our great river. In this place where people proud of where they’re from welcome performers warmly, and easily. To this place where what you find is love, we’ll always want to return!
What's more, beyond music as the reason for gathering, the event is also one for the family, the village, and the community, where residents and tourists alike can discover the gardens and their lilacs by way of activities offered by the Simard sisters, daughters of one of the co-founders of the gardens; or stand, wide-eyed, to watch the local talent, in the farmers’ market and craft fair space; eat in the foodie zone where crêpes bretonnes are featured alongside Charlevoix tourtière and a balanced menu that uses local ingredients as its starting point… That’s kind of the recipe for this festival that, as it embarks on its second edition chooses, time after time, to make a priority of the personal, smaller scale welcome and warmth, and to take time to admire the variety of colourful flowers, to smell a bouquet, to feel a song, to savour a melody… for one moment!

Première édition, Pour un instant

Angélique Boulet, co-founder of the Festival Pour un Instant festival, and Geneviève Jodoin, spokesperson for the second edition, united their voices and their quills for Du vent dans nos voiles [Wind in Our Sails] the unifying theme song, the video of which was shot on a still ice-covered dock, this spring.
